The Muskoka Concert Band is a continuation of years of Muskoka community band history. As the popularity of Concert Band music waned after WW II, town bands in Muskoka were struggling with a lack of players and conductors.

Fortunately, in 1959, a young surgeon (and talented conductor) named Lyn Sargeant agreed to lead a new venture: The Muskoka District Concert Band, which was an amalgamation of most of the town bands in the area.

Lyn directed the band for 25 years. John Rutherford and Kathy Kilbourne followed in Lyn's footsteps and the Band, now called the Muskoka Concert Band, continued to grow and improve.

The current conductor is Neil Barlow. Neil's reputation as a conductor has drawn musicians from far and wide to join the ranks.

As the Band's 50th anniversary approaches in 2009, it has close to 50 regular members and they perform some 15 cxoncerts a year throughout Muskoka.
